Police: Gunfire erupts after thieves rob would-be iPhone buyers

JONESBORO, Ga. — Gunfire erupted at a Clayton County gas station early Monday morning.

Police said a mother, her son and his girlfriend used Facebook to try to buy an iPhone 5 and arranged to meet the seller at the QT at Tara Boulevard early Monday morning.

While the son and his girlfriend were in the store, three men got into the mother's car and demanded her cellphone, money and her car keys at gunpoint, police said.

When the woman's son approached, one of the robbers flashed a gun and tried to drive off, but the son fired 15 rounds at the robbers' black Dodge Charger, police said.

Police said after wrecking the car, at least two of the men tried to run, but officers captured all three.

Despite at least four bullets striking the car, no one was injured.
