Police seek 'Buckhead Bandit' in 10 armed robberies

ATLANTA — Police are working to catch a man linked to nearly a dozen armed robberies.

The same robber is accused of targeting a string of businesses along Peachtree Road in midtown, Buckhead and Brookhaven.

Atlanta police released several surveillance videos Tuesday night hoping to identify the gunman.

Channel 2 Action News spoke to one of the victims who was working inside the Subway shop on Peachtree Road.

"He said, 'Don't move,' and I was like, 'What are you talking about, don't move?' And when I looked up, the gun was pointed at my face," Shqwandra Moore said.

Detectives believe the same man has hit as many as 10 stores, including two in Brookhaven, several in Buckhead and at least one pharmacy in midtown.

"He is very casual. He seems to have done this before. He is not nervous at all," Sgt. P. Spann of the Atlanta Police Department said. "He kind of walks into the business, very cool and calm. He approaches the cash register as if he is going to make a purchase.

That's when police said the man pulls out a gun. Police said most of the businesses that were robbed are within walking distance, which leads detectives to believe the man lives in the area.

In one video released by police, the man is seen talking on a cellphone during the robbery with a gun tucked in his waistband.

In a holdup at a CVS, he mimics a gun with his hand as he stares at the clerk, and then lifts his shirt to show what appears to be a real gun.

"He's getting approximately $200 to $300 at a time," Spann said.

Moore said the bandit was bold enough to return to her store as a customer, just four days after holding her at gunpoint.

"I know it sounds crazy but he came back in, I guess just to see. I don't know what he was looking for," Moore said.

Police are asking anyone who can identify the man to call the Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
