Police searching for armed carjackers they say beat father

A father told Channel 2's Rikki Klaus carjackers beat him up, then pointed guns at his face as he laid in the ground outside his house.

Lance Seymour said he left his house for the gas station early on July 4 when a black car suddenly stopped in front of him and swung open a door on Flat Shoals Road in DeKalb County.

“They hit the back of my car with the car they were in. I heard a single gunshot go off,” Seymour said.

Seymour said he lost the car, waited a while, then took a different route home. But he could not escape the men.

“The next thing I can really remember is being on the ground, bloody face, and three guns pointed at me," he said.

DeKalb County police said he got a concussion. The men took off with his VW Jetta, bass guitar, wallet and phone.

Seymour posted about his experience on Gear Talk, a big online community he runs for musicians. He says it was followers who found his instrument.

“Apparently the people who stole the bass had listed it online for a very, very small amount of money,” he said.

The man who bought it returned it to Seymour for free.

The dad said thieves hacked into his accounts and begged contacts for money.

Despite the headaches, Seymour said he’s touched by his online community’s support.

“There’s been a lot of really positive things that came out of this, especially meeting new people who’ve been willing to help," he said.

Police found Seymour’s car about six hours after the carjacking, at a vacant spot on Roseheath Lane.

No arrests have been made.
