Apartment worker wanted for stealing rent

DUNWOODY, Ga. — Dunwoody police said an apartment complex office worker is on the run after stealing rent money from several tenants.

Police are offering a reward for the capture of Zoraida Soto. Soto is charged with 24 counts, including forgery and theft by conversion.

Detectives said she took money orders from at least 12 tenants and put them in her own accounts. Soto reportedly vanished shortly after.

Co-workers at the Dunwoody Glen Apartments noticed a problem with rent money orders and called authorities. She had only worked at the complex a few weeks.

"Twelve different transactions where the suspect converted money orders into her name and she deposited the money into her account," Sgt. Mike Carlson with the Dunwoody Police Department said.

So far authorities believe $6,300 has been taken. Soto is also wanted on a probation violation out of Broward County, Fla. on a previous grand larceny conviction. The exact circumstances of that crime are not clear.

"Background checks were done on Ms. Soto, but however this was missed," Carlson said.

No one from the apartment complex management returned calls to Channel 2 Actions News for comment.

Anyone with information on Ms. Soto's whereabouts is asked to call Dunwoody police at 678-382-6914.
