• Police: Office burglar stole food, alcohol and electronics

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - An office burglar now facing charges in Alpharetta helped himself to laptops, booze and food set aside for a holiday food drive, one victim tells Channel 2 Action News.

When Tom Wnukowski and his colleagues at Next Steps Learning, Inc. off North Point Parkway got to work Dec. 1, he said they immediately had cause for concern.

"Someone had broken in over the weekend and stolen six laptops," he told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik.

Wnukowski, the company's IT director, reviewed footage from security cameras installed just the week before, and found video of a man prying open a suite door with a crowbar.

"This guy was brazen," he said. "(He) didn't cover his face, didn't wear gloves. He was in our suite for five hours."

Wnukowski told Petchenik the man went from office to office, stealing what he could, including food and alcohol.

"Cracker Jacks, stuff out of the food drive," he said. "(He) broke into the boss' liquor cabinet. He was everywhere."

After Wnukowski provided Alpharetta police with images of the man, police sent the image out across metro Atlanta.

A source said detectives in Atlanta recognized the man as Abdul Hasan, a career criminal with a history of similar office break-ins.

"Justice served," said Wnukowski. "The guy got what he deserved."

The Georgia Department of Corrections website showed Hasan has been in and out of prison seven times since the mid 1990s, having been convicted on charges including burglary and theft. The website showed his most recent release from prison was last April.

Wnukowski had this advice for other companies lulled into complacency: "Don't take anything for granted," he said."Even if you're in nice building, make sure you have your security stuff checked and working and recording."
