McDonald's shooting case may be tied to search for missing man, family says

Police are investigating after someone was shot in the face at McDonald’s on Virginia Avenue in East Point on Wednesday.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest/witness in the case. The man was wearing a blue and red Superman hoodie, dark pants, with red and white tennis shoes. He was last seen in the area of 1000 Virginia Avenue walking away from the location.

Channel 2's Kristen Holloway spoke to the parents of 31-year-old Jeffrey Merriweather.

They said they have not heard from him in five days.

Merriweather was sitting in the backseat of an older model white Toyota in the McDonald’s parking lot when someone started shooting at the SUV just after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

An innocent bystander was hit by a bullet in her face when shots rang out.
