Police need help identifying man seen creeping around neighborhood

FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — Rome police need the public's help identifying a man they say keeps peeping through the windows in a neighborhood of million-dollar homes.

One woman said she heard the man at her back window Friday night.

"We heard a sound outside. We were just sitting in the den watching TV," Gayle Monk said.

Neighbors told police the man crept around several houses Friday night and peeped at people through windows and doors.

Rome police gave Channel 2 Action News surveillance pictures Monday.

"Didn't fit the neighborhood, kind of wandering around, going up to people's doors and looking in the windows," Lt. John Walters said.

Why the man prowled around the area is still unclear. Police said he didn't break into any homes or cars, but they want to question him and figure out what he was up to.

"We don't know if he was trying to see what he could see through the windows. A lot of people need to close their curtains better," Walters said.

Monk and her neighbors are keeping their curtains shut and taking extra precautions, just in case the strange man returns.

"I am now keeping that door locked and making sure my side door is locked," Monk said.

A number of neighbors said there have been some car break-ins in the area, but police haven't connected the man to those crimes.

Anyone who recognizes the man from the surveillance pictures is asked to call Rome police.
