Police: Man shot, killed opening front door

ATLANTA — Atlanta police say someone shot and killed a man who answered the door at his friend's apartment late Sunday night.

Police said someone called 911 from the Auburn Glenn apartments on Boulevard after hearing gunshots. When officers arrived, they found the man shot several times.

Investigators said the man, who is in his 30s, had stopped by to see a friend when he answered a knock at the door.

"It was at that time we believe a suspect produced a handgun and discharged a weapon fatally injuring the victim in this case," Atlanta Police Department Major Chris Meadows said.

Police said they do not yet have a description of the shooter or a motive.
