• Police: Man found dead in Gwinnett had unloaded gun

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Gwinnett County police have identified a man found dead behind a neighborhood tennis court.

Police said 22-year-old Rashad Jones was found lying on the far side of tennis courts off Oak Road Tuesday night.

Neither Jones nor the people involved in the shooting live in the subdivision, and police said the group met up to discuss some type of scam they were running.

“During the course of the investigation, they learned there was some type scam that these two groups of people were involved with where some money was taken and one of them was there to collect,” Ed Ritter of the Gwinnett County Police Department said.

Investigators said there was an argument between the groups, and Jones was outmatched by someone who had a loaded gun.

Jones’ friends, who refer to him as Shad, spoke to Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh.

“He was good at basketball. We hung out a lot, he wasn’t into this trouble,” friend Daniel Dupuis said.

"Shad was like, loving, you know, he always had that smile on,” friend Frank Massaquoi said.

Dupuis and Massaquoi said the park where Jones was shot was his hangout spot. They said they believe he tried to run away, but collapsed near the tennis courts.

Police said no one has been charged with Jones’ death and they have no one in custody.
