20-year-old killed at house party in Gwinnett County

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — What started as a fun gathering at a Gwinnett County home is now a death investigation. On Tuesday morning, police found a young man's body inside.

Channel 2's Tony Thomas arrived at the home on Taylor Road in unincorporated Suwanee as officers were processing the crime scene.

Police told Thomas they began getting calls Monday night saying someone had been shot, but no one could or was in a condition to give them a location.

Investigators spent hours searching and then found the house Tuesday morning, and the body inside.
Thomas was there when the victim's mother walked up to police and was given the heartbreaking news.

“We are going to miss him. I'm going to miss my son,” Wislyne Morand said.

Morand said she first heard rumors her son Christopher had been shot while she was searching Instagram. She spent the night trying to find him.

“We had no idea. We didn't know where he was or where his body was until this afternoon,” Morand said.

Mikey Ball said the 20-year-old Collins Hill High School graduate was his best friend.

“It’s just a shame the people we grew up with, the person who took his life, we grew up with him. We knew him. So it's kind of tough,” Ball said.

Homicide detectives said they aren't sure who killed Morand, but they've determined he was shot during a house party at the home sometime Monday night.

“Detectives are still interviewing several people to try and find out exactly what happened, to find out if this was something that was planned or something that was a spur of the moment situation,” said Gwinnett County Cpl. Collin Flynn.

Police won't say if anyone was in the home when they arrived Tuesday morning.

“My son did nothing wrong for him to be gone that early,” Morand said. “He was there in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Detectives said there were at least 10 people in the home during the gathering Monday.

“I hope they catch whoever did it,” Morand said.
