Police investigate shots fired at Stonecrest Mall

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County police are investigating a shooting at Stonecrest Mall that sent hundreds out of the busy shopping center.

According to police, a group of men were arguing outside the mall and someone pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Police said the shooter ran into the mall and fired more shots while hundreds of people were shopping.

A Channel 2 Action News viewer shared cell phone video with us showing shoppers at the JC Penney running out of the store.

Kerwin Smith owns a store inside the mall. He says several people were shopping like they normally do until they heard gunshots.

"Two customers ran into my store and I said 'Hey go in the back' and I locked the door."

Natasha and Shiraz Sureni also own a store at the mall. They told Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes people were doing anything to get away from the gunman.

"A couple of customers came in and jumped over the counter and we got really scared," Shiraz Sureni said.

Smith said he won't be able to make a living if his customers don't feel safe.
