Police: Suspect shot, killed by homeowner during home invasion

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A home invasion turned into a deadly shooting Monday morning in Henry County.

A man inside an apartment at the Sable Chase Apartments, on the 2000 block of Sable Chase Boulevard, told police his roommate fired at multiple robbers who had climbed onto their balcony.

One man was found dead inside the home.

"We believe he is a suspect, part of this home invasion call," police said.

NewsChopper 2 was there after police discovered a second body behind the building in a field.

Channel 2 Action News obtained the 911 call made around 7 a.m.

911 operator: Are you home alone?

Caller: No I have a roommate. He's the one who responded.

Background: I think that's why I shot that guy. They were running out the door and I pulled the trigger.

One neighbor tells Channel 2's Matt Johnson robbers tried to steal from the same apartment over the weekend.

"Then they ran, so they came back again and tried to rob him. Well, his roommate was there and this time, with a gun," one neighbor said.

Grieving family members mourned for the man found in the field as police worked to figure out his connection to the home invasion.

"My kids have to be here while I go to work. That scares me," one neighbor said.

This neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, worries about the gunfire she says she hears near her home on a regular basis.

"It's not going to get any better unless you clean it up. You gotta get rid of all the people..." one neighbor said.

Police have not yet released the names of the two men found dead.

The two men who live in the apartment are being questioned by Henry County police.
