Police: Burglar burrowed his way into pharmacy, stole narcotics

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Johns Creek police are searching for a burglar who they say burrowed his way into a pharmacy and stole powerful narcotics.

Surveillance video shows the heist on April 11 at Prestige Pharmacy on McGinnis Ferry Road.

"It was a mess," Emma Young told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik.

Young manages a medical supply store adjacent to the pharmacy.  She came to work April 12 to find a hole in the wall between the businesses.

“They burrowed a hole through the back door and then through the other side of the bathroom,” she said.

Captain Chris Byers told Petchenik the suspect cut alarm wires and tried to destroy a DVR box.  Byers said detectives later found the digital video recorder box in the woods and recovered the surveillance video.

“He was taking things like Oxycontin,” said Byers. “He knew exactly what he was looking for.”

Video shows the suspect loading drugs into a bag to take with him.  An owner of the pharmacy told Petchenik the theft forced the business to close for a few days to replenish its supply.

Byers said detectives believe the burglar will sell the stolen drugs on the street.

“We always take these things extremely serious and try to keep these things off the street,” he said.

Young told Petchenik she hopes police find the drug thief.

“You have to be careful,” she said.  “Make sure you have good security.”
