• I-75 south lanes reopen after police chase

COBB COUNTY, Ga. - A police chase ended in the death of an armed robbery suspect on Interstate 75 southbound, which was shut down Sunday, shortly before noon.

Police said the unidentified suspect robbed a Marathon station on Bells Ferry Road at Victoria Road in Woodstock.

In a press release, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said the suspect and his vehicle matched the description in another armed robbery in Cobb County earlier Sunday morning.

Two Woodstock police officers chased the suspect on Interstate 575 south into Cobb County. Several officers tried to stop the suspect, but he refused, police said. Police followed the vehicle onto Interstate 75 South and stopped the car near exit 263, authorities said.

After the suspect pointed a firearm at the officers, officers shot and killed the suspect, the statement said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
