Police: 2 shot on Auburn Ave. in robbery attempt

ATLANTA — Police are checking surveillance video to try to track down gunmen who shot two people on Auburn Avenue late Wednesday night.

Atlanta police said a couple of men were standing outside a closed bar at the intersection of Auburn of Avenue and Bell Street when two men pulled up in a car.

"Standing on the corner, a vehicle pulls up. Two males get out on what appears to be a possible robbery attempt," Atlanta police Capt. Tim Peek said.

The victims started running and police said that's when the gunmen started shooting.

Police said one of the men was struck in the elbow with a bullet and a bystander was struck in the chest by a stray bullet. Several rounds also hit a nearby nightclub.

"As they were shooting, one of the rounds went over and shattered the glass of that business," Peek said.

Police said the gunmen got away in a silver car.

Investigators are looking at surveillance footage to try to track down witnesses.

Both victims are being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital.
