Police are looking for the person who murdered a former Paulding County High School star athlete who was heading to college.

Tommy Lee Robinson was shot and killed Friday night after a football game.

His mother held back tears but found enough strength to say some powerful words inside the high school gym where he was remembered Sunday.

"I have a whole community behind me that says how good my baby was," Melinda Lee told Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes at a vigil honoring her son.

Robinson graduated from Paulding County High School just a few months ago, and his former principal wanted to memorialize him there.

"This is the last thing any mother wants to do -- you see it over and over again and you always hope to God that it's not you," she said.

Police are still trying to figure out who shot Robinson, but his friends say the murderer is a Paulding County High School dropout who got into some sort of altercation with Robinson after the game.

"I don’t know if it was an accident or not, but you did it so you need to own up to it. We know who you are," said Desiree Martin, a friend of Robinson's.

The victim's mother begged students not to retaliate and take the law into their own hands. She told them to respect themselves, respect each other and to make the most out of their lives.

She said justice is coming to the person who killed her son.

"The clock is ticking, the clock is ticking," she said.

According to police, another young man was shot during the same incident Friday night and he's expected to be okay.
