Nurse's assistant accused of assaulting patient

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. —
A Clayton County nurse's assistant is under arrest after police said he sexually assaulted one of his patients.

A judge set Michael McClendon's bond at $5,000 Wednesday afternoon, but McClendon said he may not be able to pay it. His mother told Channel 2's Tom Jones over the phone that she does not believe these allegations because she said he is a good man who loves his job.

"You have been charged with one count of sexual assault. You are to have no contact with the victim," Judge Richard Brown said in court.

When Brown asked McClendon if he would be able to pay the bond, McClendon answered "not sure."

According to a police report, McClendon admitted to detectives that while he was seeing the patient in a room at the Riverwoods Behavioral Health Hospital, he "caressed her left breast in a sexual manner."

The report said the victim said it was uninvited, but McClendon said it was invited by the patient. He told investigators that she had been making "sexually-oriented" comments to him during her stay at the hospital while in his care.

If McClendon cannot make bail, he will remain at the Clayton County jail until he appears before a judge again Nov. 29. Channel 2's Craig Lucie called Riverwoods Behavioral Health Hospital for a comment Wednesday afternoon and has not heard back.
