Police arrest teen accused of dozens of car, SUV crimes

ROSWELL, Ga. — Police have arrested a teenager accused in a string of crimes involving cars and SUVs.

Channel 2′s Michael Seiden was in Roswell, where investigators said 19-year-old Charvester Hollis is accused of committing dozens of crimes since 2018.

Roswell police officers arrested Hollis early Friday morning after officers spotted him speeding around the city in a stolen SUV. Hollis was in the car with two other people, who managed to get away.

“The initiating officer conducted a PIT maneuver,” Officer Sean Thompson said. “All three fled on foot. The other two suspects who were with him, we believe we will eventually track them down.”

Investigators think Hollis is also responsible for stealing multiple vehicles in Cobb and Putnam counties.

Seiden talked to victim Beth Lynott, whose car was stolen.

"I woke up, got dressed up and got my stuff ready to go to work, and I walked outside, and my car was gone," Lynott said.

Police said Hollis used the car to commit multiple crimes throughout the county.

Pictures Lynott sent Seiden after her car was recovered showed extensive damage.

"I think they found it turned upside down in a ditch, and it had been there for a few days," Lynott said.

Putnum County Sheriff Howard Sills is also working to get justice in his community. The sheriff said in 2018, Hollis was part of a crew that stole three cars and a pickup truck. They’re also accused of breaking into at least a dozen vehicles, including one of his deputy’s marked cars. Once they got inside, Sills said they stole the deputy’s shotgun.

Sills described the burglars as “pure predatory hunters -- the human equivalent of nocturnal coyotes.”
