Mother believes there are more involved in son's fatal shooting

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A local mother told Channel 2 Action News that despite an arrest in her son's murder she believes there were other people involved and they are still out there.

Charlotte Greene only has memories to hold on to after Taris Williams, 21, was shot and killed after leaving Dugan's Sports Bar in south Fulton County.

"My heart is broken. Every day I have to wake up and realize that my son is not there," Greene told Channel 2's Carl Willis.

Investigators say Williams was in the parking lot of the shopping center on Old National Highway on Aug. 11, when he was fatally shot in the chest.

Police arrested one person, Kelvin Canty, 23. He's charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

"It did bring a little bit of closure," Greene said.

Police told Willis that three people were with Canty the night of the shooting.

Detectives initially wanted to speak with them to strengthen their case against Canty, but they say the three are no longer a focus of the investigation.

Still, Fulton County police say the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

"Basically, I don't know. I'm still finding out details," Greene said. "He didn't have his wallet, his keys. His pockets were run through."

Willis did some digging and found that this is not Canty's first arrest.

He was a co-defendant in 2010 a murder case out of Cobb County when he was just 17 years old. He didn't serve any serious time for that charge.

He was also arrested for a probation violation in 2013.

"He really doesn't know what he has done to me," Greene said.

Greene can only remember the time she spent while she waits for answers on why her son's life was taken.

"My son had a lot of potential," Greene said. "It's just sad he was killed for nothing."

Police believe Canty is the shooter.

Still, Greene wants police to be certain they have everyone responsible for her son's death. She says the others were seen running away after the shooting.
