More than 90,000 voters showed up to the polls for early voting over the holiday weekend

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Your voice, your vote. Early voting in the senate runoff starts Monday morning but the voter turnout this weekend was large.

Saturday, lines were wrapped around the building at some polling locations across the state. According to the Secretary of State’s office, more than 90,000 people have already voted early in Georgia’s senate runoff election.

Channel 2s’s Elizabeth Rawlins was in Cobb County at the Board of Elections and she spoke with some voters who say they were glad to see so many people out voting.

“I was going to stand in those lines, whether one hour, two hours, three hours,” said Joshua Wilson, voter.

Long lines were seen at polling locations across Gwinnett, Henry, DeKalb and Fulton counties on Saturday, and some voters waited for hours.

“It’s the longest line I’ve been in a while but it makes me happy to see that this many people are out to vote,” said Jane Phillips, voter.

Another voter said he was happy to see so many DeKalb voters showing up early to vote.

A Georgia Supreme Court ruling last week gave counties the option to open the polls in the days surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday, and 16 counties across the state took advantage of it.

“We talk about a lot of the crazy and challenging things we’re facing here in Georgia, so my thing is why not come out and vote, play my part and make a difference,” said Wilson.

Early voting ends on Dec. 2.
