DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County mother is warning others about a peeping Tom she says exposed himself to her kids as they were getting ready for school.
DeKalb County police are investigating what happened at Sharona Harris’ apartment complex, Thornberry Apartments off Clifton Springs Road.
She said she had just left around 7 a.m. Monday. Minutes later, she said her 13- and 18-year-old girls called her to say the stranger was in their patio with his pants down.
“(He was) touching himself in front of the kids,” Harris said.
She said she stayed on the phone with them as they called 911 and told them not to confront him.
“I’m just telling them go and hide until the police get there,” Harris said.
DeKalb County police showed up but couldn’t find the person described as having a black hoodie and black pants.
“Why me? why my family?” Harris asked. “Right now, they’re terrified, in their room. They don’t want to sleep in their bed. They’re sleeping in the closet. They don’t want to come into the living room.”
Another neighbor told Johnson he saw the person running away but didn’t know what he was just accused of.
“I went around, letting all my neighbors know what was going on,” Harris said.
She also posted an alert in the “neighbors app” with what she knows about the suspect.
Harris hopes it helps stop him from doing it again. “He’s sick. Very sick, and you need to be caught,” Harris said.
A gate at the apartment complex remains open even at night, so neighbors aren’t sure if the man lives in the complex or wandered in from somewhere else.
