Metro counties working to reschedule vaccine appointments after weather supply delays

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The sun may be shining again in Georgia, but this week’s winter weather across the country is still having major impacts on COVID-19 vaccines across the state.

The Georgia Department of Public Health says expect problems with shipping and supplies through the week, even into next week.

Some counties are rescheduling vaccination appointments because of short supply. DeKalb public health notified about 450 people Wednesday that they did not have enough of the Moderna vaccine for their second doses.

That accounts for roughly half the 1,000 doses given daily between their two mass vaccinations sites in Doraville and Stonecrest.

Late Wednesday, DeKalb also announced they would have to move anyone scheduled for their second Moderna shot on Thursday. All should be contacted by phone or email to reschedule once they have enough vaccines again.

Health departments in both Cobb and Gwinnett counties say they do have enough vaccines to get through scheduled appointments this week, but have stopped making any future appointments.

Both will not start taking new vaccination appointments until they have the supply on-hand. That could cause some vaccination sites to shut down, or limit their numbers, into next week.
