Metro Atlanta school districts report over 38,000 cases of COVID-19 weeks into school year

ATLANTA — Metro Atlanta school districts are reporting 38,742 cases of COVID-19 among students and staff just one month into the school year.

That’s with several districts that have not yet updated their tallies for last week.

Still, cases in Georgia schools seem to be on the decline as of mid-September. In Gwinnett County, Georgia’s largest school district, there has been a 38% decrease in new COVID-19 cases this week compared to the peak the week of Aug. 30.

In Cobb County, cases have declined 44% since the week of Aug. 30.
