Men in video sought in connection to Morehouse grad's killing

ATLANTA — Atlanta police need help analyzing surveillance video in the investigation into a Morehouse graduate's killing.

Joe Gibbs was gunned down at Parsons and Webster streets in southwest Atlanta near the Morehouse campus. On Monday night, police emailed Channel 2 Action News surveillance video from a gas station near the crime scene. They've already arrested two people in connection with the shooting but may be making more arrests, depending on the tips received about the video.

The video shows two men inside a Chevron convenience store one hour before the shooting. Police need help identifying them.

Students at the school are shaken up about the shooting.

"He just graduated, so I'm sure this was the farthest thing from his mind  --  that a week later, he would die," Morehouse graduate Ryan Hobbs told Channel 2's Eric Philips.

Police said Gibbs was driving his car when gunmen fired into it June 13. He was killed, and his passenger was hit in the hand. That passenger remains at Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Nicolas Smith and Devin Campbell have been charged with murder.

"It just shows that the police around here are doing their job," student Bryan Nwafor said.

Police do not believe it was a random shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Atlanta Crimestoppers tip line at 404-577-8477.
