3 in custody in connection with carjacking at Buckhead hotel

ATLANTA — Police have taken three people into custody in connection with a valet worker who was carjacked at a popular Buckhead hotel early Thursday morning.

Investigators have also tracked down a stolen Dodge Challenger taken during the incident.

The carjacking happened shortly after midnight at the DoubleTree Hotel in Buckhead

Channel 2's Darryn Moore was the only reporter to talk to the valet worker, who said the guest gave her the keys in the lobby and when she walked out the door to park the car, she ran into a gunman.

“As the valet got out the car with the keys, one masked gunman approached them and demanded keys to the vehicle,” said Atlanta police Capt. Reginald Moorman.

"They actually ran up to me and said, 'Give me those keys.' And we actually gave them to him and they ran off," the victim said. “They most definitely had a weapon with them. Looked like a .45, most definitely.”

Channel 2 Action News had the only camera at the scene in southwest Atlanta late Thursday afternoon when police found the car that was stolen during the carjacking.

Detectives say three people are now in custody.

People staying at the hotel told Channel 2's Christian Jennings they were pretty shocked to learn that such a violent crime happened there.

“We were just outside, and all the police officers were coming up and talking to the valet parkers and looking at keys and stuff,” hotel guest Nicole Deacon said.

Police confirmed to Jennings they are currently questioning the three men who have been detained to determine whether or not they committed the carjacking.
