Surveillance video released in gas station fatal shooting

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police have released surveillance video of a deadly shooting at a College Park gas station.

Fulton County police said a man was shot and killed about 1 a.m. at a Chevron at the corner of Old National Highway and Flat Shoals Road.

Surveillance video shows the shooting in the parking lot. Channel 2's Liz Artz spoke to investigators about the footage Sunday afternoon. They told her the camera inside the business caputured the suspect's face, and the camera outside of the station caught the entire crime.

Police said the suspect and the victim appeared to make a transaction before an argument occurred. The victim walked away and that's when he was shot, police said.

The suspect drove off in a blue newer-model four-door sedan, possibly a Dodge or a Chevrolet. He was wearing a black shirt with bold writing on it, police said.

Channel 2 crews went to the crime scene minutes after the early-morning shooting.  Police said people heard several gunshots and called 911. Police said paramedics happened to be nearby.

"We had an ambulance just up the scene. They came over, called us (and said) they had a deceased person laying in the gas station at 6129 Old National Highway," said Fulton County Police Sgt. Scott McBride.

There are two signs on the gas station window, which say "No Loitering, No Trespassing, No Crusing."

Three customers, all afraid to speak on camera, said those signs were posted when known drug dealers started hanging around the gas station.

"I'm concerned because I come to this Chevron. I got employees that come to this Chevron," said area business owner Will Johnson.

Johnson called the situation frustrating. He talked about how upsetting it is for those trying to elevate the area.

"We need to be willing to stand up and work within ourselves to be able to help ourselves. I'm speaking for all of the people not standing behind me right now, but in their hearts, they're feeling the same way," he said.

Police are searching for more clues in hopes of finding the shooter and determining a motive in the case.
