Shootout leaves 1 dead, 1 injured outside Atlanta nightclub

ATLANTA — Police are asking for witnesses to come forward in a deadly shootout at a nightclub.

Detectives said one man died and another man was shot.

Officers were called out to the Voo 2 on 2997 Campbellton Road southwest just after 6 a.m.

The 28-year-old survivor was taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive.

Investigators collected at least 15 shell casings on the ground in the parking lot. They also found one gun on the ground near the victim, but don’t know if he fired it or if it was used.

Detectives say there doesn’t appear to be any cameras outside the business that would have captured what happened, and they say management and employees had already left, along with most the customers, by the time officers arrived.

“At this point, we don’t have any witnesses to come forward to provide us information, but what we’re gathering is there was some type of shootout and our surviving victim was caught up in that crossfire when he was injured. So we would ask if there are any witnesses, anyone heard the gunfire, saw anything in passing, that they would come forward.," said Atlanta Police Lt. Pete Malecki.

The name of the victim has not yet been released but Gehlbach learned from someone at the scene that the man is known in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact APD Homicide unit or call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
