Man shot dead outside shopping center in North Fulton County

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Sandy Springs police are looking for a gunman who they say shot and killed a man as he walked on a sidewalk Friday morning.

Police said witnesses saw the shooting on Northwood Drive, then witnessed the shooter take off on foot.

Sandy Springs detectives have now obtained murder warrants for 31-year-old Tranquilino Garcia-Lorenzo, AKA "Frankie", in the killing of 28-year-old Freddie Antonio Rosales-Ruano.

"We're looking for motives and we do have a couple of witnesses, so we're looking at some information as far as what caused or what led up to it," said Capt. Steve Rose.

Garcia-Lorenzo has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark jacket with a white stripe around the sleeves, and a dark-colored hat.

Channel 2's Mike Petchenik spoke to a man who identified himself as the victim's brother. Julio Alberto Rosales-Ruano said his brother is a native of El Salvador who had been in Atlanta just a few months.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office was still making an official identification as of Friday afternoon. Petchenik put Ruano in touch with police and the Medical Examiner's Office.

"He was a friendly person, very happy sometimes," Ruano said of his brother.

He told Petchenik he didn't believe his brother had any enemies.

"I feel sad, because this was my only brother and family that I have in the United States," he said.

Neighbors on Northwood Drive described it as an area in transition.

"It can be kind of scary walking up and down the street," said Renee Daniel, who moved into an apartment complex on the street about a year ago. "It's a lot of men on the street. A lot of traffic on the street."

Daniel said she plans to move in light of the shooting.

"To see this, there's a lot of work that needs to be done," she said.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Garcia-Lorezo is asked to contact Sandy Springs Detective M. Bailey at 770-551-3308 or Detective J.M. Williams at 770-551-3296, and are eligible for a reward. Or, if you wish to remain anonymous, contact the Sandy Springs Police Tip Line at 770-551-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
