Local Air Force Academy athlete injured in motorcycle crash

BUFORD, Ga. — A local man is recovering from severe injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash this week.

Devin Durden, 21, is a tight end on the Air Force Academy's football team. He was a star athlete at Buford High School and had returned home for a visit.

Durden was riding his motorcycle along Ga. Highway 20 near Gravel Spring Road when a car reportedly pulled out in front of him and slammed into him.

Family members said Durden's spinal cord may be severed from the accident, which could leave him partially paralyzed.

Durden has already undergone two surgeries since the crash on Wednesday.

"It's going to be very difficult, because he is just so active and he's full of life. Life is full of peaks and valleys but I have no doubt that Devin is going to overcome this and he will find a way to turn this into positive," family friend Benjie Wood said.

Friends and family have been using the hashtag #prayfordevin in their Twitter posts.

Devin's demur and hand were also injured.
