K9 officer helps deputy locate wanted kidnapping suspect after search in Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Flash, a Forsyth County K9 officer, helped locate a wanted kidnapping suspect.

Flash, a young bloodhound, has a nose made for tracking. His sense of smell is up to 10,000 times stronger than a human. Bloodhound jowls are so large, they hold that odor a lot longer.

“That’s how God built him, he’s a phenomenal tracking dog,” said Forsyth Sheriff Ron Freeman.

Flash got called up for duty last weekend. Deputies answered a 911 call and learned that a suspect was wanted on a kidnapping charge out of Cobb County.

“He fled into the wood line, so at that point they requested Flash and I start tracking,” said deputy Steven Challenger.

Flash had no trouble picking up the scent. He jumped into action and within 15 minutes tracked down the suspect. The suspect was later identified as Dan Antwine of Kennesaw.

“He saw Flash come up and then he decided to run across the street there were deputies there waiting for him,” said Challenger.

Flash joined the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office earlier this year.

“If we can find a missing kid, if we can find a kidnapping suspect, and keep him out of the community, that just proves the value of having that,” said Freeman.
