Improved Glenridge ramp opened but it’s only a small part of the big picture for traffic

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The redesigned Glenridge eastbound ramp opened early this morning. This new ramp begins about 300 feet sooner than the previous one.

Georgia Department of Transportation stated lengthening and opening the ramp here divides traffic on the highway and ultimately relieves congestion.

Resident Judy Diamond said, “400 has been annoying; 400, 285 and Abernathy is the worst.”

The opening of the Interstate 285 Glenridge ramp will hopefully spell relief for some drivers.

It’s a small part of the huge I-285 and state Route 400 interchange project.

“Something as simple as lengthening a ramp will be about to divide traffic better. You have to make that decision earlier, not much earlier, but you get out of the way of other traffic,” said Natalie Dale, GDOT spokesperson.

Dale said smaller projects are being completed week after week.

“You’re seeing ramp space extended, distributor lanes. And the purpose of that is ... [it] reflects the goal of project is a safe, more efficient interchange,” said Dale.

Despite the progress, drivers like Diamond said she is running out of patience. In fact, she’s moving because of all the traffic.

“It’s pain; it’s probably not the only reason, but it definitely help add to it. All the congestion is crazy,” said Diamond.

Dale said the project is scheduled to be done by the end of the year.

“It will get worse before it gets better. That’s just a reality. We want you to be prepared, and we want you to be aware,” said Dale.
