I-85 watermain repairs could take several days

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia DOT says it may take several days to make water main repairs along I-85 in DeKalb County.

Crews closed lanes to fix the break, which caused delays on the busy interstate Thursday morning.

Officials said the first break at I-85 triggered a second break at Shallowford Road, just west of the interstate.

On Wednesday night, Channel 2's Craig Lucie reported that several gas stations near Shallowford were without water. Some businesses were forced to close early.

DeKalb County officials planned to bring in a contractor Thursday morning to help them repair the 30-inch water main break under I-85 southbound. Wednesday evening, crews closed two southbound lanes as they worked.

Their work could continue through the weekend, so I-85 southbound traffic may become a nightmare.
