Lithonia home set on fire after SWAT situation

LITHONIA, Ga. — Smoke was seen pouring from a home at the center of a SWAT situation in a Lithonia neighborhood. Authorities say the man inside set the home on fire.

According to DeKalb police, someone from a home in the 5000 block of Regency Manor Court called 911 in reference to a domestic call around 6 a.m.. There was a woman, a man and two children inside the home at the time. The woman and the two children were able to get out of the home, but the woman was transported to the hospital for physical injuries.

According toDeKalb County Assistant Police Chief James Conroy, the man inside the home threatened to burn the house down while negotiating with officers. Fire crews were called to the scene because of the threats.

The suspect was finally taken into custody just before 8:30 a.m.

Several weapons were found inside the home, according to Channel 2's Liz Artz.

Residents reported the neighborhood is blocked off by officers for hours.

Authorities said the suspect is facing a number of charges including assault and arson.
