Horse put down after getting stuck in mud pit

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. — A horse being cared for by a Cobb County rescue group was put down after becoming stuck in a mud pit.

Michelle Akers of the Sundance Horse Rescue and Outreach on Bullard Road said the horse, Zoe, was grazing Sunday night when she stepped into a small creek that was filled with mud.

Akers said Zoe thrashed in the mud throughout the night.

Rescue workers were unable to save Zoe and the Cobb County Fire Department said she had to be put down.

Akers said she has asked Cobb County to add a horse rescue squad to the fire department, but that has not happened.
