Homeowner shoots, kills suspected burglar

RIVERDALE, Ga. — A homeowner shot and killed a suspected burglar Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers were called to the home on Birch Walk Boulevard in Riverdale around 10:45 a.m. and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Dexter Williams, 19, was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

Police say the homeowner was inside the house when Williams tried to break-in. The homeowner fired, hitting Williams, who ran to a nearby driveway, where he collapsed.

Archie Booker, who owns that home, says it’s sad how the young man ended up lying in his driveway with a hammer next to him.

"I heard some moaning and I turn around and there he was," Booker said.

He said burglars have to learn that people are fed up.

“You can't try to rob people and get away with it. Eventually something bad is gonna happen to you,” Booker said.

After the attempted break-in, officers arrested a second man, Patrick Kemp, 22, who they say was Williams' partner in crime. Police say Kemp faces felony murder in the case since Williams died during the robbery.
