Vigil held for toddler who died in foster care

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Several gathered for a prayer vigil Sunday in Henry County for Laila Daniel, 2, who died while in the care of a foster family in November.

It's been three months since Laila's death, and the people who organized the vigil say they don't want people to forget her death could have been prevented.

According to police, Laila's foster mother, Jennifer Rosenbaum, called 911 and said Laila choked on a piece of food.

An autopsy revealed Laila had bruises all over her body and was malnourished.

Rosenbaum was arrested and charged with murder. Her husband, Joseph Rosenbaum, was also charged with child cruelty.

Channel 2 Action News discovered two workers with the Division of Family & Children Services were fired for a series of mistakes that investigators deemed partially responsible for the child's death.

Jennifer Rosenbaum is a National Guard veteran, a law school student, a community activist and was a candidate for the Henry County Commission.
