R. Kelly's manager makes bond on terroristic threats charge

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A man accused of threatening the family of a young woman involved in allegations against singer R. Kelly has surrendered.

Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne broke the news Friday morning.

Henry James Mason, 52, surrendered on a warrant of terroristic threats, Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer confirmed to Winne.

Winne confirmed Mason is Kelly’s current manager and spoke with his lawyer, Adamma McKinnon.

"We’re looking forward to working with and defending Mr. Mason in the outstanding charges and we’re also looking forward to supporting Mr. Robert Kelly throughout any investigations throughout the state of Georgia," McKinnon said.

McKinnon escorted Mason out of the jail in Henry County on a $10,000 bond.

"As his attorney, we believe that he’s innocent of terroristic threats," McKinnon said.

McKinnon told Winne the Henry County Sheriff's Office, police and district attorney have treated Mason fairly.

An incident report says in late May, Timothy Savage reported a phone call from Mason, saying Mason threatened to kill him

McKinnon denies Mason made the threat and said she's been in conversation with Gerald Griggs, the attorney for Timothy Savage and his wife.

“My office along with Mr. Mason was coordinating efforts with a representative for Mr. and Mrs. Savage to try to arrange a meeting between the Savages and their daughter in Chicago. And I will say for the record that Mr. and Mrs. Savage declined to have that meeting on January 12,” McKinnon said.

A spokesman for Griggs said the Savages are not willing to meet in Chicago where R. Kelly has a home because of the threats they have received from Mason and from another man who has not been charged, but he indicated they would meet in Atlanta or another city.

“We feel that Mr. Mason has done no wrong with regards to Mr. and Mrs. Savage,” McKinnon said.

McKinnon said as for suggestions Kelly has held anyone against her will, people should remember he's not been criminally charged.

Griggs said a letter to R. Kelly's lawyer forwarded to Channel 2 Action News corroborates his position on a Chicago meeting has been consistent. He said the Savages would be willing to meet in Chicago at the state's attorney's office with law enforcement present.

McKinnon said the Savages’ daughter Joycelyn preferred meeting in Chicago.

Several women have come forward with scathing accusations against the singer in the new documentary series "Surviving R. Kelly."

"I want him to be held accountable and get the help that he needs," alleged victim Asante McGee told Channel 2's Justin Wilfon in an exclusive interview about her experience.

Last week, the parents of another alleged R. Kelly victim told Channel 2 Action News that the Fulton County District Attorney recently contacted them.

McGee said, so far, the DA has not contacted her.

A spokesperson for the Fulton County DA's office said they had no comment.

We called and emailed R. Kelly's attorney, but have not heard back. He has previously denied all accusations.
