4 out of 5 people in this family have been diagnosed with COVID-19

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — We’re getting new insight into the impact of the coronavirus on some local families. Four out of five members of a Henry County family tested positive even though they say they took precautions.

The grandmother of the family is on a ventilator in the intensive care unit at Emory University Hospital. The grandfather was on a ventilator. He’s now off it as he continues to recover at the same hospital.

Brandon Williams, 26, says it’s very hard not seeing his grandparents. He has the coronavirus too. His mother also has the virus. Brandon says as he recovers at home, he is experiencing a dry cough and wheezing.

Brandon says they all lived together and have been careful. He says they all got tested after being notified that a home health care worker who had been at the home to check on the grandparents got the coronavirus.

It’s an example of contact tracing working because then the entire family got tested. Brandon’s symptoms weren’t severe enough to go to the hospital. He’s been quarantined at home as he recovers.

As he’s heard about the big spike of COVID-19 in young people, he wants them to realize anyone can get the virus. Brandon says until it hits home, they won’t understand how it can affect them or their family members.

He says although it has been several weeks since he was first diagnosed, after feeling better, he’s feeling sick again. Brandon says now he’s experiencing muscle weakness and a stronger cough.
