Health officials warn of Hepatitis A outbreak in Carroll County

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Health officials are urging people in Carroll County to make sure they are vaccinated against Hepatitis A because of a recent outbreak.

The Health Department says there have been 46 cases of Hepatitis A in Carroll County since April and there have been 562 cases statewide in 2020.

Hepatitis A is a liver infection that is highly contagious and can cause fatigue, nausea, stomach pain, and jaundice.

Drug users, people who work in restaurants, people who have been recently jailed and the people they are in close contact with are most at risk.

The best way to prevent infection is by practicing good hygiene by washing your hands after using the bathroom, chaging diapers and before preparing food.

The Carroll County Health Department, 1004 Newnan Road, Carrollton, is offering free hepatitis A vaccinations during regular business hours.
