“Because of the fast response and training of everyone involved, Vera will now be able to enjoy her first Christmas,” Ellis said.

Whitmire and Earley were honored at the Gainesville City Council meeting Tuesday.

“It’s been a month since our sweet Vera went into cardiac and respiratory arrest,” Vera’s mother, Samantha Turpin, said on Facebook. “She’s thriving in everything she does. It’s like nothing ever happened to her, which is a huge blessing.”
