HALL COUNTY, Ga. - Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash in Hall County on Ga. 332 at Talmo Road.
State patrol officials tell Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen that three children, ages 16, 9 and 4, were killed in the crash, which happened at 8:54 a.m. on Saturday.
Police say the driver of the SUV they were in reportedly pulled in front of an oncoming pickup on Belmont Highway.
Of the four who were hurt, one is still hospitalized. But the grief over the children who died is more than the family can bear.
There's little evidence left of the tragedy that struck at this usually quiet corner.
"I've been coroner for 28 years. I guess this has been one of the worst cases I've had. This family is very distraught," coroner Marion Merck said.
Merck says he has done what he can to console the family of Denise and Angel Huerta just 9 and 4 years old.
The coroner says the children and a 16-year-old cousin were killed when the SUV they were riding in collided with a pickup truck Saturday morning along Belmont highway.
The family was far too upset to talk about the enormous loss they've suffered, but they did send us these touching photographs of a brother and sister.
"All of them precious children, this hit the community here hard,” Merck said. “It touched many hearts, and we had several calls about this case."
The Georgia State Patrol says the 17-year-old driver of the SUV the children were riding in did not yield the right of way.
The family is planning a triple funeral for Wednesday.
The siblings and their cousin will be laid to rest side by side.
