Metro mother worried about daughter’s safety after she says 6-year-old was attacked on school bus

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A mother said her 6-year old daughter was attacked by another student Monday on a Hall County school bus.

“(A) couple days ago, my daughter got off the bus saying she was choked, by a fifth grader,” said Casey Cote.

Cote doesn’t want her face shown, but did give Channel 2 permission to use her name.

Cote tells Channel 2′s Larry Spruill that the school blamed her daughter for getting choked, because she was sitting in the middle of the bus and not up front.

“As a mom, that’s frustrating. How (are) you going to blame the child that got hurt, for not sitting in a seat that she wasn’t even assigned to?”

Cote said she called the school several times.

“I reached out to the assistant principal, the principal and the superintendent’s office,” she said.

Cote said she didn’t hear back until Thursday.

“They said because she had no marks on her neck, she was not choked.”

Cote said she’s frustrated, angry and worried about her daughter’s safety.

“We had issues the beginning of this year and last year.”

Cote said her daughter has been anxious about riding the school bus and has had nightmares.

Channel 2 reached out to Hall County Schools, and a spokesperson sent this statement:

The principal of Friendship Elementary School spoke to the mother yesterday and we feel the situation has been resolved.”

Cote said, “So when I talked to the superintendent’s office, which is the agreement they said happened, there was no agreement that day. Last thing I said was, I didn’t agree with how the assistant principal handled things, and that’s it.”
