Buford neighborhood warned about positive rabies case in area

BUFORD, Ga. — If you live in or near the Morgan’s Crossing Subdivision off Chatuge Drive in Buford, Hall County Animal Control says you might want to be aware of a positive rabies case.

Animal Control says they responded to a call earlier this week regarding contact between a potentially rabid raccoon and a dog in the 4300 block of Chatuge Drive.

Officers were able to capture the raccoon and said they sent the raccoon to the Georgia Public Health Lab- Virology Section in Decatur. Thursday, Animal Control was told the raccoon tested positive for rabies.

Hall County says this is the second confirmed case in the county this year.

The county says they will be posting signs in the area where the raccoon was found. They’re asking anyone in the neighborhood and see an animal acting abnormally to call Animal Services at 770-531-6830. If the encounter happens after business hours, they encourage you to call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

As a reminder, the county wants to encourage animal owners to make sure and vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the county Animal Shelter located at 1688 Barber Rd. in Gainesville. The cost is only $10 but you’ll need an appointment.
