Man killed after being pinned under street sweeper

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A man was killed when he became partially pinned beneath a street sweeper early Thursday morning.

Gwinnett police said officers were called to a QuikTrip gas station near Pleasant Hill Road and Club Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville around 4:30 a.m.

Channel 2's Liz Artz learned the victim, identified as 47-year-old Orlando Cepeda Hall, is believed to be the operator of the street sweeper.

Police said crews found Hall pinned between the hydraulic arm and the hopper of the vehicle. He was confirmed dead at the scene.

The vehicle was still running when it was found by a construction worker.

Artz said that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified.

“I don't even know what to say about something like that,” Drummond said. "That's crazy, God that's insane I don't know. I hate that I don't know if he got family or whatever the case may be."

OSHA says it could take months to complete the investigation.
