Man killed in front yard of Gwinnett County home

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for a person who was bold enough to kill a man in his own front yard.

The shooting happened early Friday morning along Silver Lake Drive in Norcross.

Investigators said the victim had just came home when someone in a pickup truck shot him in the abdomen and drove off.

"I looked out my window, and I heard three gunshots, like, around 4:30. Looked out my window, and I saw a Ford F-250 pull into the driveway, and it just took off," a neighbor, asking not to be identified, told Channel 2's Kristen Holloway.

Police later found the man’s body in front of his car, which eventually was towed away as evidence.

“When officers arrived, the driver’s door was still open and it (the body) was still in the vehicle, so we’re trying to determine if this happened in the vehicle or after he got out,” said Cpl. Wilbert Rundles, with the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Detectives and crime scene investigators blocked Silver Lake Drive for about three hours, trying to piece together what led up to the shooting.

Neighbors told police the 38-year-old victim had been renting a room for a year at the home and it wasn’t out of the ordinary for him to come and go at various hours of the night.

“I mean, this is a safe neighborhood. Never heard that before,” the neighbor told Holloway.

Police have no suspect information, and they are working to get a description of that pickup truck.
