Gwinnett 9-year-old brings neighborhood to its feet with driveway concerts

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A 9-year old girl from Gwinnett County got a standing ovation from her friends and neighbors over the weekend.

Payton Rodney may have already found her calling.

"It just makes me feel good. And I like to jam to it,” Payton said.

Payton can beat a drum like nobody’s business. It all started when she was only four.

"She was always picking up pencils and pens and beating them all over the furniture. I would yell at her and tell her to stop,” her father Charles Rodney said.

But now after five years of lessons, she’s ready for primetime. Payton performed a concert in her driveway in Dacula.

Nearly four dozen friends and neighbors came out to hear a wide range of tunes from Beethoven to Michael Jackson. Her performance was just what her neighbors needed during times like these.

"It was nice for the 45 minutes not thinking about the current state of affairs,” Charles Rodney said.

Payton plays piano too, and beautifully. Payton says she’s not used to playing in front of a crowd, but she’s glad she did.

“When I first started I was nervous. But when I started playing I was okay. At the end I was like--I got this. I’m good," she said.
