Dramatic video shows officers rescuing families from burning apartment

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Newly-released bodycam video shows just how dangerous it was when police responded to a burning apartment building.

Officers went door to door to rescue people around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 1.

Two Gwinnett officers responded to the scene along Sweetwater Road near Duluth. When police got to the scene, the flames were already shooting from the building.

"Hey, come on, come on. Is everyone out? Is everyone out?” one officer said.

The officer headed into the breezeway and started knocking on doors.

One of the officers grabbed a child to help a family out of the burning apartment.

At that point, smoke was filling the air. When the officer got back downstairs, the fire department was there to put out the flames.

The Red Cross has been helping the families.
