GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - A baby and his mother are safe, and the father of the child is in police custody.

Gwinnett County police and SWAT team members were in a 2-hour standoff at Capella Apartments in Norcross that started just before 8 a.m. Thursday.

Police told Channel 2's Kristen Holloway the man locked himself inside an apartment with their baby after he pointed a gun at the child's mother.

Luckily, she was able to run out of the apartment, but police say this whole thing started because the couple was arguing about socks for their child.

That argument led to a physical fight and Gwinnett police say the man ended up pointing a gun at his girlfriend.
