Girl Scouts say pandemic won’t hurt cookie sales this year

ATLANTA — Leigha Samuel and her sister Lundyn know how to think outside the cookie box.

“My aunt, who is also the second troop leader, she came up with the idea,” Leigha said.

They created a drive-thru Girl Scout cookie booth during the 2021 selling season. They did not let COVID-19 get in the way.

“After two years, I think folks have decided the pandemic is something they can live with,” Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta CEO Amy Dosik said.

Dosik admits last year was tough time.

Troops across the country were stuck with millions of unsold boxes. There were more than 700,000 in Atlanta.

But buyers, including corporations and even local governments, stepped up and every last box was sold.

This year, the scouts say the “in-person” cookie booths will be back.

The first wave of orders is up 30%, and if you crave Girl Scout cookies, there’s an app for that.

“We have a ‘booth finding’ app in the app store. Type in your zip code, and it’ll tell you where the closest booths are to your location,” Dosik said.

The Samuel sisters ask you to look for their booth. For the second straight year, it’ll be a drive-thru.
