Georgia man shoots at car for playing loud music, deputies say

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga — A Georgia man was arrested last month after he shot at a car that was playing loud music, according to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.

At around noon on Feb. 20, 50-year-old Chris Motley shot at a car near the intersection of Vaughan Drive and Houston Valley Road in Ringgold. In that car were Michael Hermes and Calvin Stephenson.

Helmes said that his parents lived in the neighborhood and that he and Stephenson went there to pick up a car.

Helmes said that on the way to his parent’s home, he saw Motley up on a hill next to his own home.

Once Hermes got his car, he drove by Motley’s home, and he saw him in the driveway with a pistol and his arms extended, with the pistol drawn out towards Vaughn Dr.

Helmes stated that Stephenson fired the pistol.

Helmes said that he had issues with Motley in the past.

Stephenson said as they were passing Motley’s home he heard a gunshot and saw a bullet hit the ground in front of his pickup truck.

Both Helmes and Stephenson said they left the area in fear.

Motley initially told police he was standing in his driveway holding his pistol when Helmes and Stephenson drove by playing loud music.

Motley said that after they drove by he walked over behind his house and fired one round into an embankment to scare them.

Deputies found a shell casing in the driveway that matched the kind in Motley’s gun.

After the casing was found, Motley said that he had fired the pistol from his driveway. Motley admitted he did shoot at Helmes and Stephenson but fired it in the direction of the back door of a nearby home.
